Ruslan Moroz: "We have high hopes for the 2026 navigation season"

Friday, 20 March 2026

According to the head of the Ministry of Transport's Department of Sea and River Transport, this spring's flooding will facilitate the efficient operation of river transport.

  • River ports in Gomel, Pinsk, Brest, and Grodno are involved in passenger transportation.
  • Waterways in the Pripyat River basin are used for freight transport. The fleet operates at full capacity in Brest and Pinsk areas.
  • In 2026, the volume of freight transport operations is expected to increase by 30.5%, and passenger turnover by 40%.

Regarding plans for the development of water transport:
"To improve navigation conditions, we plan to begin reconstruction work on the hydraulic structures on the eastern slope of the Dnieper-Bug Canal—the hydroelectric complexes “Kachanovichi”, “Stakhovo” and “Lyakhovichi”. We also plan to conduct a survey to improve navigation conditions by increasing the depth by at least 2.5 meters, including the construction of hydraulic structures to ensure optimal water conditions in the Pripyat River. This is envisaged by the Pripyat Polesie District Development Program for 2025–2030," noted Ruslan Moroz.
