Qualitative improvement of road infrastructure and creation of fast and accessible transport links are among the strategic objectives for the development of the republic's regions.
A reconstruction project for the R-46 railway is underway in Lepel and Ushachsi districts. A 30-kilometer section from Polotsk to Sorochino has already been commissioned. Construction on the second 30-kilometer section, to Lepel, is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.
Proven technologies and materials are being used in construction, but some new features are also being introduced. In addition to traditional mesh fencing along the roads, bridges with tunnels for wildlife will be built for the first time.
Another feature of the R-46 is the installation of culverts of varying diameters and angles to prevent lakes from forming on either side of the route due to the landscape.
After reconstruction, the highway will be 12 meters wide. Reinforced shoulders will increase throughput, visibility, and viewing angles for drivers. The risk of animals suddenly appearing on the roadway will also be reduced.
Details are in BELTA report.
